Crème de Violette

Crème de Violette , or liqueur de violette, is a generic term for a liqueur flavored and colored either naturally or artificially with violet flower petals that has as its base either a neutral spirit, brandy or a mix of the two. It smells and tastes both sweet and floral. While common from the early 19th through the mid 20th century, its popularity died off, and it became difficult to source in the US until mid-2007, when liquor importer Haus Alpenz began importing Rothman & Winter’s Crème de Violette. Crème de Violette is a key ingredient in an Aviation cocktail.
